PROJECT:

HASHØJ, DANMARK

UPGRADED BIOGAS WITH SPECIAL CONDITIONS

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The “Forsk El” supported demonstration plant was built in close collaboration with biogas plant owner Erik Lundsgaard and Ammongas. The plant delivered the first upgraded biogas in Denmark to the local district heating plant.

To Hashøj, the plant was considered a pilot project, partly due to their own wish of upgrading the gas to the national gas grid, and partly to solve the problem of delivering their total gas production through a thin 3 km long pipeline to the heating plant (the produced gas is not delivered to the gas grid at the moment).

To Ammongas it was about testing if the company’s patented stripper-absorber process, which was used to separate gasoline vapours in pure gasoline and air, was also able to separate biogas into pure methane and CO2.

As expected, the plant worked from day 1, and has since been used by Ammongas for test and optimize different absorption media and controlling methods. It was on this plant the ability to handle raw biogas without precleaning, even with thousands of ppm H2S was developed.
