PROJEKT:

FREDERIKSSUND, DENMARK, AMMONIA SEPARATION

AMMONIA SEPARATION

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The stripper-absorber plant is placed indoors at Haldor Topsøe in Frederikssund. Two stripper columns remove the ammonia from Haldor Topsøe’s process water, after which the ammonia (now in gaseous form) is absorbed in the absorber column.

The plant manages to desorb and absorb 1 ton of ammonia per hour from the process water.

The process in Frederikssund is part of a new catalyst production and has to primary purposes: separating potassium nitrate form ammonium nitrate and cleaning a warm stream of process air containing ammonia. The finished product is controlled to a specific concentration, within narrow limits by advanced density measurements.

Despite its large scope the plant is very environmentally friendly, and only emits few grams of ammonia per hour.
